So......during some "quiet" time with Winnie last night, while she was playing with a stick in the yard and I was sitting in the sun, I got to read for a bit. I quickly grabbed an old copy of Walden by Thoreau and started rereading the first few pages.
What struck me as interesting in this very old book (maybe 200 years?) was his perspective that all writers should write about their lives since that is what they know. He even goes so far as to tell his readers that eventhough most books are not written in first person most literature is written in first person point of view.
This made me think about how far we have truly come since Thoreau's days at Walden Pond. It seems like everyone has a blog today, and we all write at great length about what happened to us during the day, or the week. Of course, these are mostly written in first person.
I think Thoreau would be very proud of us and happy, BUT I still don't think he would fit in to today's society or culture. We live in a world where TV, Movies, the Internet, You Tube, and blogs have taken over. Compared with his world where people had to build their own homes, build or kill their own food, and make their own clothes.
But I digress, and this has become more of a diatribe than it was intended. For those of you who follow our blog, I certainly appreciate it. I love all the votes on the polls, and this seems like an amazing way of keeping in touch.
Hopefully you like our blog as much as I do, but if you have feedback please feel free to email me. I know you all have my email address.
In the meantime I look forward to keeping up with each of you via email and here.
